How to turn off 2FA code for my phone but keep it on for all the other devices?

Hey all. I have 2-step verification on via Google Authenticator app. Please can someone explain to me how I choose a primary device (e.g. my phone), so that I don't have to enter 2FA code every time I open PayPal app?

Thanks for that solution! I'm on Android, so no FaceID, but I just turned off biometric (i.e. fingerprint) in the PP app which has the same effect. I now login with just a fingerprint, which is now of course the passkey. Pity PayPal couldn't explain that. 🙁

I’ve been using the passkey feature for a long time and, unfortunately, doesn’t solve the issue for me. I have even tried removing the passkey and registering a new one but that too was unsuccessful at skipping 2FA codes. Oh well… I suppose that’s what you get for using a terrible service with even worse costumer support.

I wish there were good and reasonably famous alternatives so that I could finally say goodbye to PayPal and its crappy user experience.

Thanks for the tips. With this approach I can use a passkey from my password manager to sign into the app, using a OTP from an SMS. I even get the option to add a trusted device, what I did. That said, after I close the app and open it again, FaceID is enabled automatically and I have to enter a TOTP again. So, this approach did not work for me after all. Maybe this does only work with an iOS bound passkey. Sadly, I cannot set up multiple passkeys with PayPal currently.

"Ironic" I had to authenticate about 3 times just to give kudos to the above post.

Just made a ticket with support but also posting my message here in hopes to get something going and end the brain rot. Will add another message in this thread if I get a solid answer but please everyone make tickets if you want this feature added! Also feel free to copy and paste or modify my message to repost.

Why are your moderators and employees ignoring user security concerns? They are not reading the thread and just giving basic robotic responses. The only explanation for this is PayPal is using AI customer support agents inside the forum because no human could be so stupid as to miss the point of what users are asking. Again, the issue is 2FA code is required on the phone even if biometric is enabled, you say this is for security but American Express, Discover, Capital One, and thousands of credit unions have this. If user input is not going to be listened to that is one thing, but you are replying to people with responses that make no sense and not helping the thread. If you are using AI agents inside a forum without disclosure to your customers then this is very immoral and illegal in some parts of the world. I am thinking about no longer using the app not because of this feature missing, but the lack of support and disrespect you have in this thread by offering no help or answers since Jan 2023 for this thread but many other threads pre-date that. I would love to provide links to those examples if you would like but I am sure you get the point. What I want to know is if PayPal immorally uses AI agents in its forum without disclosing its use to customers. Does PayPal have any plans to implement this feature? Will there be any consequences for the moderators if they are human for responding to posts without reading the content?

terrible customer service and system design

paypal is falling behind the game

i've been a customer for over the last 10 years but this is the first time i had to register for a community account just to complain about the UNSOLVED trivial problem, only to witness how bad the support is in this forum

Ever since migrating from my iPhone 13 Pro to my iPhone 15 Pro a year ago i have this problem. With 2FA active i need to enter the 6 digit 2FA code or when disabling 2FA i need the sms code. Not one of the 2 offers me the button to remember my device. This all worked before so all replies that say that this is normal are so wrong since it worked for years before that.

Because no one could help me and the support most of the times dont even understand the problem i did some digging and i found a few things.
First if i disable 2FA so only sms codes are send and i completly reset my phone i get the option to remember the device and it also seems to work then. But if you then remove the remember device via the website the option to remember it NEVER returns. Also if 2FA is enable i never get the option to remember it.

My thinking is that the device identifer is somewhere in their database and you cant remove it from there this the remembered devices lists seems to be imcomplete and buggy. Also they seem to store the device identifier in the iOS backup but something went wrong when i transfered from my 13 pro to the 15 pro which messed up the trusted process.

Sadly the support cant seem to help remove all data completly and you dont have any option to reach anyone else. Also acording to some german posts there were supposed to be changes in august so that you can remember device when using 2FA but this seems to do nothing for me.

Its so crazy that there are so many reports of this bug but all the time they say its normal or that a device needs time to be trusted. How many more years till this will be fixed?

Edit: One more thing the App seems to be trusted enough that it can allow other logins which is wierd.

Same problem here on an iPhone 16 Pro, fresh install. On Android it always worked before, now I need to use an OTP for every login, no matter how I authenticate (password, passkey, FaceID, ...)
