I moved from USA to Sweden and want to change my PayPal number to my Swedish one, is that possible?

I recently moved to Sweden from USA and wanted to change my PayPal account phone number to my new Swedish number or the Google Voice number that I am using for things that won't work with a non-American number, but both don't seem to work. Is there a solution for this that doesn't involve me maintaining an entire American phone line just for PayPal?

Paypal is country specific so if you move countries you have to open another paypal account in the country you reside in and add an address / phone number / bank accounts / cards from within that country.

You should really withdraw any funds / resolve issues / remove cards and bank accounts / cancel any subscriptions and close the old Paypal account before you move countries. If you don't then you may have problems doing so once you have moved and may need to contact customer services for help to resolve things.

You can however in some countries add a U.S bank account (not card) to your paypal account. This is because paypal is a U.S company.
If you have that option then it should show in your paypal wallet.

Thanks, that makes sense, but what if I share time between here and America, or am planning on moving back in a few years, or otherwise may conduct transactions there? I imagine it would be better to keep an American PayPay account, after all I still have American bank accounts etc., but I don't want to pay for an entire phone bill every month just to maintain a number for this. For my banking and credit card accounts, I was able to substitute a Google Voice number as my American phone number, for things like 2FA or alerts, but PayPal wouldn't let me use that kind of number. Is there a way I can use something like a Google Voice number as my PayPal number?

As i said paypal is 'country specific' so you should not use another countries paypal account.

Each country varies a lot in what it allows and provides so you have to open and use a paypal account linked to the country you are living in.

So I should open a Swedish PayPal account, yes, but what if I want to keep my American one for when I'm in America but don't have a permanent home or cell phone number there?

You can have 2 paypal accounts x1 in each country but ONLY if x1 is a personal account and the other x1 is a business account.

You are not allowed x2 personal accounts.

So if that is not an option then you have the choice of using x1 paypal account only when you are in that country OR close it when you move and open another one in the country you have moved to.
