WHY?
It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH SECURITY. When I called your phone help line, they suggested that I use someone else's cell phone to do this process and then disable the number. No wait its a trick... it does not allow you to disable it so now I have SOMEONE ELSE'S NUMBER AS MY CELL PHONE TO VERIFY SECURITY. Cell phones are constantly stolen and the number one hacked source for financial access. You just chose the absolute WORST form of security known in the industry. This has been marked as the worst form for over a decade. I work in IT security.
Absolutely NOBODY suggested this to you in IT or you need to fire your entire IT team. This is a way to track and trace while you subject us to socialist credit score systems. Its disgusting garbage. Stop lying. It has LESS security now than before.
