How do I cancel a paypal me link?

A few years back I found this neat tool called PayPal.Me link.  I used it for my customers for 3 years and it worked like a charm for my customers.  In January, it suddenly quit working and directing my customers to open a paypal account.  PayPal had me cancel the old link and establish a new link, which I did.  It worked well for about 2 months, then it did the same thing.  PayPal has been totally useless in either explaining how this happened OR how to fix it.  If I can't fix it, I'd like to cancel the link...which, it seems you can't do.  ANY SUGGESTIONS?

People always needed a PayPal account to use the PayPal.me link to pay (as per the text in the blue gradient banner):

With PayPal.Me, anyone with a PayPal account can pay you in an instant.”

All I can say is that the buyer DID NOT need a PayPal account previously...this must be a new "term of service."
