Had to Verify Bank Account after eBay Purchase.

Hi, wondering if anyone could explain this.
I use PayPal for personal purchases, 90% of which are via eBay and never had a problem, I use Buy Now and transfer to the PayPal site automatically from eBay.
I have made purchases from the UK, USA, Europe and a couple of other places with no problem.
Tonight I made a purchase on eBay which was from Turkey and payment was in USD. The seller has positive feedback and been on there three years with one complaint about an item. The seller was listed as Non US Verified but when eBay transferred me to pay via PayPal I was presented with a page that said i was required to verify my bank account number.
It gave my associated bank details on one line and below I had to add the account number connected to this which I did before I could continue to the payment page.
I have had my normal emails from PayPal, one the actual Receipt for your PayPal payment and the other was the Transaction email so all seems in order and it has now showed up in my PayPal account so everything looks normal.
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if this was safe as I have been a verified PayPal customer for a long time and this is the first time I have been taken to a page direct from eBay requesting that I verify my bank account number before being allowed to proceed to pay for the item.
Was just wondering if it was because the item was paid for in USD but based in Turkey and that the verification of my bank details was just a security precaution.
Be grateful for any advice as to if this is normal.
Thanks
Devic

Hi guys,
It sounds to me that both of you have reached the sending limits on your PayPal accounts.
When your sending limit has been reached, the only way it can be lifted is by completing the verification process on your bank accounts.
This can be done by going to the Profile on your account and then if you click the Update option beside your bank accounts. Then you should have an option to complete the verification process on your bank accounts.
This would consist of us sending two small deposits to your bank. When you can see them in your bank in between 2 and 3 working days afterwards, you can enter them on your PayPal account and this would complete the verification process on your bank accounts.
Please let me know how it goes.
David.

Hi thanks for the reply, although not sure it actually applies to me from what I just checked up on PayPal after looking into spending limits. I have been using PayPal since 2005 and am a verified account holder, with email, bank and address and in the PayPal help section states "Higher spending power - There's no limit to the amount of money you can send once you are Verified."
In the last 7 years I have never been asked to verify my account since initially doing it when the account was opened as I verified it straight away. I was not asked to use the verification process where two small amounts were made and I then use the four digit number to verify my account during my last transaction it displayed my bank account and asked me to verify my account number associated with that bank account.
I was only wondering why that was as it had never happened before, once I entered my account number the payment went though fine I didn't have to verify the account with the four digit code. I got both emails from PayPal regarding that payment had been made so I know it went through and the user on eBay was Non-US Verified so genuine. The only thing I haven't had yet is it show up on my bank account, although the payment was only made on the 24/07/2012 but my bank is suppose to update every night.
I just decided for a few days to keep an eye on both PayPal and my Bank to make sure now money is going missing which at present it isn't. I know PayPal also states "Verifying your PayPal Account - In order to safeguard the security of everyone using the PayPal system all new PayPal account holders have a spending limit of up to £500" but I would hardly call myself a new user and have spent over that on purchases on-line without a problem.
I just thought maybe as everything is verified with my PayPal account and I have never had problems before that maybe if you paid money to certain countries extra precautions are taken as a security measure and this transaction was paid in USD but to a verified user in Turkey which was my main concern but the person had almost 100% positive feedback on eBay, was verified and been a member for over three years.
Thanks for the input anyway I will just keep an eye on my PayPal and bank for the next week make sure everything is on order.
