e-check

I've used my paypal account twice for purchases today. The first time it was on Ebay and the charges were immediately sent through without a problem using the card I always use. The second time it defaulted to an e-check from my bank account, and I didn't know it until the purchase was complete. As this was a piece of downloadable software, this means I can't download my purchase for at least five days. If I had known this would be an issue, I would not have used paypal to make this purchase and simply used the card itself.
While this is mostly a minor irritation, I'd like to know what gives? There are no problems with the card. It's been attached to this account for quite some time. The card itself itself is tied to a bank account with plenty of money in it. Can someone clarify this for me, please?

Hello. Yeah what is this E check business all about anyways? I had the same problem, I had made a couple of purchases and the next thing I know there was a payment waiting to be cleared over a five day period because something changed all on its own or something. If you have figured something out let me know. Also, there is no way of cancelling this kind of payment once it is pending. Not only is this making me look bad as a buyer but making it look like I am not going to pay for an item I have bid on.

I too am in the same situation. I have used direct immediate pay from my savings accounts for years and without warning, my "paypal payment from bank account mode" automatically switched over to e-check mode. I didn't realize it until after the transaction had already been initiated.
Now when I look to try and make a direct payment out of my savings account, e-check is the ONLY option available from here on out.
I agree with the both of you, sellers want immediate payment. If this is the new paypal policy then I will be transferring money over into the paypal account (which already takes 3 to 5 business days) so that I have immediate funds available to send to the sellers.
It would have been nice if paypal would have warned us instead of simply carrying out this function automatically.

I had a similar issue. But now, I'm having trouble with the seller with the e-check "clearing". In my paypal account it shows as cleared 4 days ago. In my bank account, the payment shows as being made 7 days ago. The seller claims it still hasn't cleared. Has anyone had experience with e-checks and know how to verify that they have actually cleared all the way through to the seller?
