Secrurity Screen when I log in?

My husband is trying to log in to his PayPal account, and the first screen asks him to enter his credit card number.  this seems weird, but he can't get around the screen.  Is it legitimate?  It says:

Security Measures

We are currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures. Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance, and you will now be taken through a series of identity verification pages.

Protecting the security of your PayPal account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

a) close the page and try again

b) look at the address bar.  It should say https : // www . paypal . com  [ignore the spaces I inserted into the text]

c) the security screen should have a list of choices such as account info, or security questions {I can't remember the whole list]

d) when you do login, if you have not done so, goto the profile page and setup your security questions.

I do not work for PayPal, nor am I am agent.  I'm guessing that the page your huband is looking at is ok, but DO NOT take my word for that.  When in doubt, CALL THEM  888 221 1161

Did anyone find an answer to this?

I work for an ISP and i have a cust that has been having this issue.  As soon as he hits the "log in" button it directs him to this same page as mentioned.  Once at this point, you are very limited to what you can access.  The customer can not access any account settings at all, cant even go back to the paypal home page.  You can simply fill out the bank account info or credit card info (Which i strongly urged him not to) or you can hit the "log out" button.  So it appears he is logged in but can not do anything with the account.

Had him try IE, Firefox and Opera, same issue not matter what browser the customer uses.  The customer had gone to neighbors to log into paypal and was successful so it appears the issue is local to the computer.  I currently have the customer running virus and spyware/malware scans on the system, but the hour i spent on the computer it had not found anything (waiting for scans to finish).

Everything in my gut tells me is its not a legit page comming up.  So im curious what other who have ran into this issue have found.  Any feed back would be great

Thank you.

We've tried it from a home computer and a work computer and still haven't been able to get past that screen.  It sure looks like I'm on the Paypal site, and it does have the correct last four digits of my credit card, but I just can't believe Paypal would want me to enter my credit card to get into my profile.  I can see asking me once I was there, or at asking me my security questions, but for my credit card?

I'd love for anyone with Paypal to comment on this.  Right now I've just avoided Paypal until it gets figured out.

This is happening to me too. It's very scary. I needed to send a money request to someone so started to fill in the information and then stopped--it was just too frightening. Thankfully I had set up a backup PayPal account a while ago so am now using that account to log on (no security page pops up when I log on with that account). I hope PayPal addresses this issue. If it is legit, then they need to do these security checks in ways that appear less sinister.

I received a similar screen when logging in to my PayPal account several years ago... I completed the credit card number request and all was fine.

If you have doubts about the validity of the request, call PayPal... click on the "Contact Us" link on the bottom of the PayPal website page... there you will find the PayPal phone number.

This just occurred to me and just like someone else posted everything in my gut tells me it's not a legitimate page.  I did an internet search on the wording of the page and came up with lots of hits. There a lot of opinions that this is not legitimate and some that say it is but nothing that looked like it was from a definitive source.  I did a Google advanced search to only search the PayPay.com domain and got zero hits.

I double checked that the page was secure (https and not http). I also verified that the URL that displayed was from www.paypal.com and was not misspelled.  So I very tentatively went ahead with the process and it turned out to be legitimate.  But I still can not believe that PayPal has absolutely nothing on it's site to indicate that this screen is something that they occasionally do with recommendations to follow to verify that it is legitimate (like I did).

This is a normal random security measure - I've had it in the last couple of weeks myself.

The page 'asking for the credit card number' does so in a drop-down box.  You can choose to proide your credit card info, to answer security questions or give banking information.  I always choose the security question option, it's more secure.

As long as you HAVE logged into paypal DIRECTLY FROM YOUR BROWSER and not through a link from an email, you'll be okay.
