pending a partial refund

 I purchased some items from a buyer on ebay and as the postage i paid did not come to the amount they charged me, They sent me a refund . This refund is pending  how can i find out how they refunded the money as on my account it says "refund to pay pal balance"

Do i have to contact the seller to ask them

A seller can only issue a refund via funds in their paypal balance or an echeque.

So if its an echeque it has to clear through from the sellers bank account > paypal > and then it is credited to you and the hold lifted.

how long does this take?  I know when i have done a refund as a seller it shows a date on the pay pal transaction, but being the buyer i cant see a time  or date when the hold will be lifted

Takes normally 5-7 working days to transfer funds from a bank account > paypal > you.

This is because paypal use electronic transfer (slowest ) rather than wire transfer (fastest).

BUT whilst the refund is pending it can still fail if the seller does not have enough funds in their bank account to fund the refund, although normally that does not happen, at least with me it never has anyway.
