No order acknowledgment after placing order

I placed an order with a company and the payment was made, however no order acknowledgment was received following completion of the payment. The company acknowledge that they have received payment but that there is no order on their system and they say they will make a refund but I would like to know if there is any way of cancelling/rescinding the payment from the Paypal end, as it may take them a very long time (if at all) to make the refund?
