I received an email from paypal asking me to do a survey on how paypal usage can be improved, and by completing the survey i will be entered into a chance to win $1000.00.I did not open the link to the survey, but the email was addressed to me with my first and last name and paypal says all their emails will include both first and last name. Is this ligit or a scam?

Well thanks for this information. I will say that on the many boards and blogs that I read this week when attempting to find out if this email was a scam the universal advice was to trash this email and (above all) not to click on its links. In fact the email seems to be in defiance of all of the advice that PayPal itself gives on its help pages.
I should note that the survey itself did not ask for either password or identity information; which really just makes me wonder how they would know who "won" the $1,000 and (frankly) to doubt that this prize will ever see the light of day.
Now that I have your assurance that the email is legitimate I went ahead and did the survey (which was strangely disorganized and one of the more vexing surveys that I have ever encountered).
My suggestion in the future is that if you want a better mix of survey participants send out emails that urge customers to go to your site independently of the email (no links) and offer the survey there.

I took the survey when I received the e-mail.
The 1st page of the survey site said it would take about 20 minutes to complete it. The first question then was my age group, giving several ranges and an 'I ain't gonna tell' selection. I responded by selecting my age group and clicked "next". The next page said the survey was complete!
I'll admit that I had to take my shoes and socks off (and borrow a couple of other folks feet) to calculate my age, but it took nowhere near 20 minutes to do that.
Okay, so maybe I was outside of the desired demographic age group whose opinions they are seeking, so there was no need to pose further queries, but how come people my age don't count toward Paypal finding out our my opinions of their service and what might be improved?
Hmmmm?
