Hi clrladybug831, welcome to the forums!

Sorry I had to delete your screenshot, but images that contain contact information for other people can't be posted.

If you log into your PayPal account by going to PayPal.com (without clicking any links), you can double-check your history. If the transaction is not there, then there was no transaction made with your PayPal account. To be on the safe side, you can also call Customer Solutions and let a representative search using your email address and/or credit card information, just to make sure that there were no transactions made from another account using your information.

There's always the possibility that the email is entirely fake, designed to scare you into clicking a link and furnishing information that a fraudster can use to later make a fraudulent payment. However, if there was already some sort of unauthorized transaction made, it's important to have Customer Solutions look into it so they can get the ball rolling on getting you covered.

I hope this helps!

I have also received an email, suggesting that I had recently sent money via pay pal to 'lavendarroom'' , and that if I hadn't Made this payment I should cancel it by clicking a link. The link was- billing.paypal.co.uk/cancel payment I suspected this was fraudulent as any genuine link would surely start with 'paypal' I think it's worth checking this out from a security point of view.

Hi clivusyzfr1, welcome to the forums!

Did you log into your PayPal account and check your history, just to be on the safe side? Again, always do that from a fresh browser, and not from a link.

Absolutely! Although I did, out of interest and annoyance, click the link that was sent. This directed me to a sign in page that looked exactly like the actual paypal page, asking for email and password. None of the tabs worked, ie. 'security' 'contact us' etc I entered a completely bogus email and password which immediately put me through to a page asking for every detail you could imagine!! Bank details, card details including security code, even mothers maiden name!!!!! I'm going to email all my friends and warn them of this one! And would ask any other reader of this to do the same.

I would also suggest, just to be on the safe side, running a virus scan and clearing your browser's cookies and cache. You're probably safe, but I always feel a little overexposed if I click on a link that I later determine was fraudulent.

Thanks for letting us know what you found!
