Verification and other stupidity

What is up with this incredibly stupid verification process? I have one simple problem. Just one. And you can't or won't fix it, or do what I ask! Why? I have stated my case twice, and yet you don't seem to understand. WTF? At least ONE person there speaks English, right? It's very simple. I wish to have items shipped to an address that I KNOW is secure. MY MOM'S HOUSE!!! In fact, I have not made a single purchase on eBay that I have had shipped to my home address. NOT A ONE!!!

While I understand the need to protect buyers and sellers, I, as the customer, make the ultimate determination as to where a purchase will be shipped! NOT YOU!!! You are simply a processing center who has no right to decide where their customers have their purchases shipped. This is simply a security matter, and is MY right to decide where the item is shipped, NOT YOURS! The address I wish my purchases shipped to is more secure than my home address, as Mom is nearly always home. A delivery at my home has a 98% chance of being stolen within minutes of delivery! A delivery at Mom's will be safe if left on the porch if no one is home. After reading some of the posts on this forum, it becomes clearer with each post that PayPal has gone with the great corporate tradition of "Profits above all, customer be damned.

Anyone out there with the financial wherewithal to start a competing company with that values people and good customer service and puts profits second? Yeah, I know, in this world.....NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

Well, the time has come to find an alternative, and only buy from people who will take payment directly, or from a provider OTHER than PayPal. That's the only thing big corporations understand, a direct hit to their bottom line. If enough of us use alternate methods, or contact sellers directly and cut eBay and PayPal out of the deal entirely, they will not get the message and never change. I urge people to do this, despite the increased risk.

Bottom line, I just cannot understand your reluctance or refusal to do what I ask.

I guess the days of "The Customer is Always Right" are long gone, and we should feel lucky that the corporations will honor us by selling us their products at whatever price they like that day.

It's just so sad that the corporate world has sunk to the level it has.

Hi saddendbygreed,

Where are you running into an obstacle with shipping an item to your mom's house?

Is this for an eBay purchase? If you've added your mom's address to your eBay account, you can choose it during checkout as the shipping address.

If you're doing a checkout through PayPal on a merchant's website, or using Send Money, you can click change under the address when you review the details of your payment, and add a different address for shipment.

Please let me know if you are still running into problems. We can get this figured out!

Olivia

Hi Olivia,

Yes, this concerns purchases made on eBay.

The problem I am having has to do with listing my Mom's address as a "Verified" address. It seems I cannot link the same debit card to 2 different addresses. As I have stated before, the system only lists the **address removed** address as "verified" but will not do so for the **address removed**. As a customer of ANY company, I ALONE have the right to decide where a purchased item will be shipped to, regardless of any concern, company rule or regulation, etc. While I and many others appreciate your concern for the security of purchases, that concern in no way can override the wishes of the customer, EVER! As I have stated before, my concern is the security of my purchase once delivered. I know for a fact that a delivery made to Mom's house will be safe, even if left on the porch (nosy neighbors are not always a bad thing!), whereas if left on my porch, it will be stolen, likely as soon as the UPS truck turns the corner. My concern is that many sellers on eBay will NOT ship to an address that is not verified. Not to be offensive, but I think PayPal is overstepping the boundaries here. While any company has the right to do business in a way that ensures a secure transaction, it is the customer alone who has the right to decide where that purchase will be shipped to, no one else. The only possible exception is for items that can be considered illegal in the country by it's laws. (porn to many countries in the Middle East, for example)

This is all I want, to have the **address removed** listed as "verified", to prevent any future problems with delivery.

I fail to see any logical reason for this not to happen, as I wish it to. Do you know where I live or my neighbor hood better than me. Do you know my life better than me? Do you think you know what is best for your customers better than they do? You need to do something about the issues your customers are having, and do it fast. Your days of the "Internet Powerhouse" you think you are, are numbered. If you don't make customers happy, they run to the competiton, laughing happily while flipping you the bird as they run. It's not too late, but it will cost you dearly to fix. Hire more customer service people, even if it means some exec won't get his bonus. (wahhh!!!)

While I realize the problem you have with fraud, and dishonest people claiming damage or other things, there is no way around this. Penalizing everyone for the mistakes of the few always has been, and always will be, the wrong way to handle a problem. It is the lazy persons way of handling the problem, because it requires no real thought or work to be done to solve the problem. Like stricter gun control laws. These will only affect responsible, law abiding gun owners, but will do nothing to stop those who desire to commit illegal acts, as these people rarely, if ever, aquire those guns by legal means. Good security is a very sharp double edged sword, that can cut too deeply in either direction if handled improperly by those who don't fully understand it's use. I know this for a fact, as I have spent nearly 20 years in the business. After reading many of these forum posts, you have **bleep** off a lot of people, and any reasonable person would conclude that something is very wrong at PayPal, and needs to be addressed quickly. Too many people and companies in this world are only out for themselves, which is bad enough, but many couldn't care less about their customers. I seems that most businesses don't give a rat's a** about customers, reasoning "who cares if I lost a customer, another sucker will be along soon enough, and I'll take their money just as fast"

As an American, I fully believe in capitalism, however, how big of a profit margin is enough?

Greed is what is killing the world we live in, more than anything else.

Please Olivia, just get that **address removed** listed as "verified". Hopefully by Spring or early Summer this will be a non issue and that property will be sold and no longer a problem.

Thanks

Hi saddendbygreed,

A card can only be associated with one address at a time, as the address you indicate is the one that you're stating is the card's billing address for the purposes of verification. This has nothing to do with determining where items are shipped. It is only a means of verifying the card with the card issuer, and documenting that we have received verification of the address.

You can select any address for shipment. We do not suggest one address over another, and a seller is eligible for Seller Protection as long as the transaction is listed as eligible and the seller ships to the address you specify in the transaction.

I hope this helps!

Olivia

Hi Olivia,

Thanks for the reply. My concern is sellers that state they will only ship to a "verified" address. This seems to contradict what you just told me. As stated may times before, MY concern is security at the site of delivery. If a shipping company lists an item as delivered, it is taken as the word of God himself. If an item is stolen off of my porch, after being listed as "delivered", I will be treated as if I am trying to pull something. After reading some of the posts on the forum, this has happened. I myself have seen this happen before, many times, just this way.  Even if I have undeniable proof, such as a video recording of the theft, I fear that I would still have problems. I would be accused of having it stolen, that the thief on video is working for me, etc. As I said, I have spent nearly 20 years in the security industry, and have seen nearly every trick in the book. Knowing how some companies operate, I would put it past no one, to try this. As long as I have no problems with sellers shipping an item to an address I designate, it's all good.

Hi saddendbygreed,

I definitely understand your position. I've had an item I purchased marked "delivered" to my apartment complex's office a handful of years ago. The three people who worked in the office swore that they never received it, and the postal carrier couldn't recall any details. There was no insurance to cover a lost package, so I was out of luck. It worked out okay for me - I contacted the seller and the seller offered me a very good discount on a replacement item, effectively "sharing" the loss with me.

I like your scenario about the video, and I'd like to speak to that for a second. Obviously, this is an extreme cirumstance, as few people actually have videos of a theft of a package. However, if you did have that, that would definitely be something to give to the police. It's beyond PayPal's scope to investigate a theft from your porch, but the police certainly can and should be notified if your belongings are being taken from your property!

You can also check out the following link about how to report Mail Theft to the United States Postal Inspection Service.
