Setting up paypal for private sale

Hi, my brother-in-law does not have a Paypal account and has sold his caravan privately to someone through the paper who wants to pay via Paypal and has asked him to set up a Paypal account for him to deposit the funds.  He has also offered more than the asking price.  Should this be of concern as he has rejected direct deposit payment.

janmek-  Your instincts are correct. There are some concerning possibilities involved here.  First off, anyone who wants to pay more than offered is a tad suspicious. Not to say that it's guaranteed fraudulent, but it'd be the same thing if someone was greatly undervaluing something else.  Buying a $5000 watch for $100...suspicious. Offering to pay more, in this financial climate? Suspicious.

As far as paying through PayPal, here's the issues.  PayPal has no Seller Protection hand delivered items.  If the buyer comes back and files and states that it was unauthorized use of their PayPal account, then you would potentially be out the money and the vehicle.  Honestly, any time a vehicle is involved, cash in hand is always the best option.  There's less potential for trouble when you have the physical money.

Hope that addresses some of your concerns!
