Am I being scammed?

I paid $1 for a download that contained a virus Smiley Mad

As part of the purchase, I signed up for two weeks of free service to access other downloads with the agreement that if I do not cancel before the two weeks are up, I will be billed $100/month.  I cannot see any way to cancel AND now I'm concerned that this looser has my paypal info and will withdraw funds again and again.

Is there a way to block him/her from withdrawing funds in the future???  Many thanks.

Yes you are being scammed. I would send a dispute ticket pending future transactions. As a precautionary measure i would detach all bank accounts and credit cards from pay pal. The neat thing about pay pal it that accounts are disposable if you set up multiple disputes pending incoming unwanted transactions and properly start the closing of your account.

Hi strangebuttrue, and welcome to the forums!

I'm definitely sorry to hear about this. The first thing you want to do is make sure that you do not have any pending subscriptions in your PayPal account. Go to Profile, and choose My Preapproved Payments under the Financial Information column (if you don't have columns, then you have the new profile format - you can find My Preapproved Payments in the My money section). Find the offending subscription and cancel it!

Detaching your financial information does not cancel a subscription! Following the steps above does. You're better off keeping your information intact on your PayPal account for a lot of reasons. One of the many is that moving your financial information from account to account could potentially cause the information to be locked by the security system so that it can't be used on PayPal at all.

Canceling the subscription does not cancel your contract with the merchant for that original payment. However, you can still file a dispute. PayPal does monitor seller behavior based on disputes, so telling your story there will help us determine if a seller is doing something wrong.

I hope this helps!
