suspicious charge to paypal on a credit card not connected to my paypal account

I received a suspicious charge to paypal on a credit card not connected to my paypal account.  My credit card company cancelled my card and sent me a new one, but the charge remains and it is not reflected on my paypal account.  When I called paypal they told me I had a premier and a personal account, but I only can log into one account.  I am going to call the credit card company again tomorrow and find out why they haven't put a hold on the charge nor investigated the charge.  I need to call paypal again and file a dispute I guess, because nothing has happened.  Was this a scam and did someone use my name to make a new account and fraudulently charge my credit card?

Hi 44, and welcome to the forums!

I'm sorry to hear you've had what appears to be an unauthorized charge! When you called Customer Solutions, did they search by your card number?

If a transaction is found in the PayPal system, a representative can discern whether it was done through an account or as a guest transaction, and can determine the next step for helping you dispute it. If they searched the system by your card number and did not find a charge, then the charge did not occur through PayPal and you should contact your credit card company to let them know.

Let me know how it turns out!
