E-check cost me money?

So someone bought an item from me on eBay via e-check for $37 including shipping and PayPal is charging me $1.37. Why should I have to pay for a buyers choice of payment options? This seems like a scam on the part of PayPal and I plan to cancel the sale since I was just breaking even on the sale after shipping and Ebay fees. Shouldn't the buyer be the one to pay this fee? It seems very unfair that I should now be losing money on this transaction. There is no way to block e-checks from the eBay side even though eBay and PayPal are the same company. Looks like I am going to be forced to sell my items through Amazon from now on to avoid bs like this.

I forgot to mention that I also take a risk in sending this item before the e-check clears so the buyer has to wait an extra week for this to clear and from the posts I was able to find here about e-checks they are not always a choice made buy the buyer and seem to happen "automagically" in some cases.

Hi disgruntledUser, and welcome to the community!

When it comes to receiving payments for goods and services, you will always be charged a fee of 2.9% + 30 cents, and if your buyer is from a different country, there is an additional 1% fee.  This fee is the same regardless of how your buyer funds the transaction.  The good thing about eChecks though is that the fee for receiving one has a max of $5.00 USD.

Regarding the time it takes for the payment to reach your balance, your buyer should be aware of the processing time as well, and should not expect you to ship until it clears.

Hope this helps, and hope you have a good weekend.

Havne't used Paypal in a while but, gee they are really going out of their way to rape people in fees...

I just paid over 5 bucks to receive a payment from an auction. Why so much?

LOWER YOUR FEES!!!!! It's a crappy economy and the little people need every penny.

You can afford it, we can't!!!

Getting a little annoyed with all the fees when selling on eBay.  Over $5.00 fee on paypal, then another fee on eBay + the shipping.  I'm thinking about going somewhere else.  I sure can't make any money with all the fees.  In fact you end up in the hole.  I don't remember PayPal charging fees before.

PayPal started charging a payment receiving fee about 8 years ago.

Hi,

...your answer is still not clear regarding the fees charged an eBay seller when payment is received via paypal e-check.  You state that for goods and services I, as seller are ALWAYS charged 2.9% + $.30....but in the next sentence you state that the maximum fee charged for an e-check is $5.00?  Which is it?  On a $1000 eBay auction am I charged $29.30 or $5.00 if payment is received via e-check?  Or is it a total of both! Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Hello VCUtourneywinne,

Welcome!

If you are paid by an eCheck your maximum fee is $5.00 (you would not be charged the 2.9% + .30 in addition).

Hope this helps!

Is there an "ADDITIONAL" fee for "e-checks" in addition to the regular fees from PayPal(Ebay) fees ??

I mean, is there some sort of a "scam" by PayPal/Ebay , high unreasonable fee(s) ??

I know PayPal will reply with "you have to contact your bank" and/or we dont know or each bank is different, but I mean in "general" . . . . . .  is there also a charge/fee from (my) banks ??
