Ive sold some items on gumtree and buyer wanted to pay through paypal which i accepted. They have sent me money via my email address. I now believe they are scammers as at first they claimed nothing recieved, then when proof of delivery was sent showing item was delivered 35 hrs earlier, they suddenly found it, but then claimed some items were damaged and that it was the packaging. The package was hugely bubble wrapped! They now say they will claim through paypal. Is this possible as we didn't recieve payment via a website?

Hello Freedomsom.
Welcome to the PayPal community.
That's a great question. PayPal have a Buyer and Seller Protection policy in place and once a buyer makes a payment using PayPal, they can file a claim to say either the item was not received, or was not as described. We do however also have a Seller protection Policy in place, and any claims are worked on a case-by-case basis. We will gather all the facts from both parties before a decision is made on any case. You will find more information regarding this here: http://ow.ly/Zlm2R.
I hope this helps,
Donna
