spoOk- Some merchants (especially ones with monthly charges, like GoDaddy) need a funding source for immediate payment. With only a bank account they would only have the option of an eCheck which can take 3-5 business days which could cause an interruption in your service. So that's why they need some sort of card, debit or credit.
Hope that answers things.

I just had a similar transaction problem. I attempted to pay I-page via my PayPal account that has a current balance that is more than enough to cover the charge. The transaction was stopped stating that I am required to link a credit card or bank account number to my PayPal account. I spcifically set up my PayPal account with a monypak card to keep it seperated frrom anything else. I contacted I-page and they satated the transaction decline was not of their policy. Can someone explain what the problem is?

So I still don't fully understand this...does adding a credit card mean that completing the transaction will charge your card, as opposed to drawing from your Pay Pal account? Or does adding the credit card facilitate the instant transaction in some other way. I reeeeally don't want my credit card charged, that's kind of why I have PayPal to begin with.

APaluser- I would recommend giving us a call so we can review your account and get to the bottom of what's happening. Here on the boards we can't really give account specific information, so while I would love to be of more assistance, through this venue I really can't be 😞
Incontrol88- That's a good question, here's a good answer 🙂
When using PayPal, our system is designed to use the balance first then other funding sources (all of which you should be able to choose independently). In some cases our system will want a card added (either for extra security, or address confirmation, or...other), but it should still always use the balance first.

I am having the SAME problem. I have over $1,000 in the account and it's forcing me to add a credit card for a $40 dollar transaction. I thought maybe it was because I have a Canadian account - although the transaction is in CAD dollars....so I even transferred $50 to US Currency.
STILL DOESN'T WORK.
I want to complete the transaction, but I am not able to add a card to this account.
So basically Paypal does not work for me with GoDaddy in this case. This makes NO SENSE.

PCMuseum- Your situation is a little different. Sorry I didn't explain it a tad clearer in the post above. Not only would GoDaddy require immediate payment (which your balance would certainly cover), since they bill monthly they require a funding source to charge the payment to on a monthly basis. If you should not have a balance in the future, then their only option would be your bank account, which I explained above won't work. But once you add the card for back-up, the payment itself should still use your balance first.
Hope that explains things a little clearer.

My situation is similar to pcmuseum. i am trying to make a one time purchase for 20.00 from shirt.woot.com. my paypal balance has way more than enough (not posting specific numbers) to cover the transaction and this is a one time transaction, yet it still wants me to add a credit card. i have my account tied to the bank because i dont do credit cards at all. this "need credit or debit card info" requirement is completely blocking my ability to purchase from this site. and it is something paypal initiated not the other site. What gives?
