ebay buyer sending item back... scam?

I sold an Item on ebay (auction with no return offered) and the buyer is claiming snad. I have never had a dispute from a seller but it seems odd as the item desription was very specific and the buyer has given a delivery conf # that is not in the carriers database.

Could this be a scam?

Yes, it could be.

Record in the dispute the fact that the DC number doesn't appear when it is tracked.

The buyer might have copied it down wrong, or they might be lying about shipping it back.

They MUST provide proof of delivery to be refunded, though, so keep on top of it.

Sent item to purchaser who had sent the purchase price.  purchase will not release funds and request I send $300 to return items. transaction reference # 4ul935450g273081m.  purchaser gives no resion for return. I was given a pin # 712024 for call ref. please advise what you can do or what I need to do.
