Seller protection?

PayPal is pushing their "buyer protection" programme, but where is the seller protection? It's quite obvious that more and more "buyers" realize that they can take advantage of the buyer protection service. Lots of sellers (private and commercial) outside of eBay accept PayPal. Problem is, of course, that if merchandise is not sent registered (which is very common, especially for not so expensive items), the "buyer" can, after receiving, can claim a "item not received" file, and always!!! get their money back. I run a small business with secondhand records, mostly vinyl, and I ship worldwide from Sweden. Buyers are always offered a registered mail option, but almost all chose not to, as the cost will be too high. More and more often, I now have to face "item not received" disputes, and I always loose the money. The two most obvious cases are:

1. A buyer who has his own used records internet shop, filed an "item not received" dispute, and of course got his money back. Only a few days later, the very same records he "hadn't received", showed up in his own listings.

2. A buyer who placed an order for some records and a music book, placed a new order two weeks later, ordering another copy of the book + some other stuff, telling that a friend also wanted a copy. A few weeks later, he files "item not received" disputes for BOTH orders!

It's quite obvious so, that PayPal are not interested in "solving" any disputes, they just scratch the buyers' backs, and don't give a **bleep** about sellers. I am now going to close my PayPal account, and I have opened a Moneybookers account, which actually also has lower fees.

UNBELIEVABLE!! PP just notified me (seller) that I have to refund a "buyer" after they had books over three weeks because the "buyer" claimed they were not as described!! "Buyer" never contacted me, just submitted to PP & they sided w/them!!!

I agree with you 100%. I sold some thread to a person and she said it had an odor. I never sell items that have an odor. I insisted that she return the item because other people had bid against her. I relisted the item and it sold. Guess what the purchaser was happy with the item and left good feedback. Paypal does not care about the sellers at all.

Hopefully they will lose their lawsuit and we will have other choices for getting paid.

From a buyers perspective, the protection is so necessary!  I've been using paypal for 10 years and just this summer/fall I got scammed for the first time buy a seller. I ordered a costume for my 20 month old son in August for Halloween.  No communication, no response and as of October 25th no costume.  Then all of the sudden I get a package from the seller with an adult costume and she provides a tracking number to paypal so even though I didn't get the item I ordered and I didn't get in time for the holiday I was entitled to nothing.  But paypal stuck it out and investigated and made phone calls to the seller and did the right thing to make sure I got my money back.

Just like there are buyers who scam by lying, there are sellers who do the same thing!  Thank goodness for paypal's protection!

Hi everyone!

I have read your posts and I understand the frustration of having claims filed against you.  As sellers we want to make sure we provide the best possible service to our customers!

PayPal does offer seller protection.  Please review our seller protection policy by going to: https://www.paypal.com/sellerprotection

I hope this information is helpful!

Paypal "offers" seller protection but doesn't actually provide this protection.

I had a buyer who purchased many things from me. I triple checked the package before it shipped. All items were included and were identical to the listing. He opened a displute and won. He was required to return the package to me in the same condition that it was received in. This did not happen. He claimed that the package was shipped back to me. I NEVER received the package. The buyer mailed something to someone in my area, just not to me. The USPS confirmation indicating the an item was shipped from thier area to my area without an actual address should not be enough proof of shipment. I am NOT in the business of giving things away for free. I thought I was protected against buyer fraud. As it turns out....I'm not.

Paypal provides empty promises! Not seller protection!

Am I covered by the seller protection? Yes, moderator Amy says. The truth is, that you have to meet several conditions, and one is: If... "2.  Your primary residence, as listed in your PayPal account, is in the United States".

So, that means I'm not covered, as I live in Sweden. Does anyone know how many PayPal account holders there are outside of the US.? Quite a lot, I guess, but PayPal doesn't give a sh*t about us. Even though there is a Swedish PayPal site (partly in Swedish), there's no way to find the PayPal user agreements in Swedish, and if you try the "help" or "FAQ" links, they are in English. For anyone, not having English as their native language, it's more or less impossible to understand the extremely bureaucratic language used.

What seller protection you are talking about?Paypal can't do anything to fight back  the Credit card company when you get a charge back ,and won't do anything to stop customer abusing of the system ,Like Ebay has a limited time (45 days) to put a claim Paypal should has a limited time for credit card company's  to place a charge back .I just got a charge back claim almost 60 days after the item was sold, the buyer indicated to their card issuer that the goods or services purchased were either damaged or not as described.(he just noticed 60 days later after he got the merchandise)and on top of that Ultimately, it is the card issuer’s decision whether the buyer’s charge back is valid.(Where is the Paypal seller protection if they don't make the final decision) and for sure the credit card company is going to grant the claim to his card holder and you end without the money and the merchandise because  Paypal won't ask to the buyer to return the merchandise before release the money.

I don't see the seller's protection anywhere  !!!!!!! god help us!!!!!!!

I just got hosed by Paypal for selling an item to a Russian for >$.99. I charged $15 for shipping but when I went to the Post Office to mail the final cost to ship was $24. Of course the buyer filed a not-received dispute and after 2 months of agonizing over this dispute who do you think Paypal sided with? The buyer had less than 50 ebay feedback I have over 2000 and have been a member since 2000. In spite of showing Paypal the customs declaration and receipt for what it cost to send the buyer prevailed. This is not the first time this has happened and won't be the last. Paypal is no different than any other fraudulent bank that has put the citizens of America in bankruptcy. As long as these outfits are not watched by an government (for the people) oversight agency they will continue to steal from all of us. We need a class action suit against Paypal. I for one would be willing to pay a fee on every transaction if an neutral party, other than Paypal, would settle disputes.
