Seller Protection? Buyer wants refund

So I sold two items to the same buyer. They were very expensive purchases. Now the buyer is asking for a reciept of purchase from me. The items are antiques, I do not have purchase reciepts, which I think are none of their business anyways.....BUT I did send an appraisal for both items which are appraised at double what they even paid for them. They are also claiming them to be fake, which they are not. They were appraised with all information about age, etc. I have noticed that most of the time the buyer is favored, Can this be even if I have appraisals(which by the way I didn't even have to provide to the buyer) which prove them to be authentic, or if they file it "not as described" do I even have a chance at winning this one? Thanks for any advice

First, ask the buyer whether he wants a receipt or a refund - I think he has to make up his mind on that one, they're mutually exclusive.

If he wants a refund, tell him the amount he paid will be refunded after he returns the item in the condition in which you sent it.

He may just be trying to drive your price down post-receipt to get a better deal.  If he asks for some of the money back, turn him down flat and then stop communicating.  This tells him that this is your final position and to put up or shut up.

Most guys go away at that point.

Deal with a dispute if and when he files it.

Actually the buyer is wanting a reciept from when the item was purchased by me! Years ago.....don't have it. And I don't think they can request one even if it was still available, never was it stated in the auction I even had one to provide. It's been like 20 years ago, it's an antique. told the buyer it was purchased at a reputable auction house in NYC, and I provided the appraisal I have on the item. Don't understand how a buyer can scream fake when the appraisal done by the ASA and AAA is right in front of them! This is insane............ anyways the buyer said if I can't come up with a reciept then they want a refund. To me, it seems strange that they are willing to keep it if I can show them where or how much I purchased it for, but an appraisal is not acceptable?

Yeah, sounds to me like they've got a fake and they want the receipt to legitimize it, maybe.

I can't see that they have the right to demand the receipt if you don't have it - I think they may be trying to create a dispute out of nothing here.

I would stick with my existing advice.

Yes, I will just see what happens and go from there, thanks for the advice. I also think it's strange when people have private feedback, when I went to check any comment on their feedback profile I can't.....and it isn't 100% either, hmmmmmm.

Thanks again:)

Well, that's why people have private feedback.

If ebay deides in th buyers favor you can appeal it in the ebay resolution center, get the tephone number and call them, they will more thorouhgly investigate the problem and make a decisoon. Ebay decided in the buyers favour in my case and then decided in my favor after more complete investigation. Don,t give up if you are sure that you are right. Ther are just some not very nice buyers out there who can unjustly cause you delays in receiving your selling price.

that does seem very stupid of the buyer to demand to see your purchase receipt of the item from you, when it is an antique. are there even actually "fake" antiques? and how can you even tell if an antique is not a real antique? but whatever you do, DO NOT STOP COMMUNICATION with the buyer. that is actually not a good idea, because that can actually cause more harm on your behalf. i have dealt with sellers that ignored me, and because of that, i made the situation worse for them. alot of people will not stand to be ignored when it comes to business and money. good luck.

I had the same experience & I lost. Believe me E-bay DOES NOT look after their sellers. I escalated the claim, told them that I had proof that the item was authentic & it took them literally 2 minutes to make their decision, which was in favor of the buyer, of course. Seriously considering going to another site to sell my stuff.
