need to get back a deposit paid

Hello there

I paid a deposit for use of a venue, but I waited for 40 minutes and the venue owner didn't show, didn't respond to phone calls or texts.  

I have no idea what has happened and Ideally I'd like to reschedule but the person concerned is not being at all helpful

How long can I wait to open the case before it becomes no longer viable?
