How do I open a dispute with a seller when a purchase goes wrong?

You can open a dispute in the Resolution Centre of your PayPal account within 180 days of payment if:
•You don’t receive the item
•You receive an item but it’s significantly different than the description on eBay or on the seller’s website

By opening a dispute, you can communicate directly with your seller to work out a problem transaction.

If you reach an agreement with the seller you can close the dispute. If you're still not happy with the result, you can escalate the dispute into a claim. We'll review the claim and decide on reimbursement.

These steps apply to Personal accounts. If you have a Business account, please log in to see the steps that apply to you.

To open a dispute:
1.Log in to your PayPal account.
2.Near the bottom of the page, under 'More about your account', click Resolve a problem in our Resolution Centre.
3.Click Dispute a Transaction.
4.Select the button beside the transaction you want to dispute, then click Continue.
5.Select ‘Item dispute’, click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.

Note:
•Generally buyers must wait at least 7 days from the date of payment to escalate a dispute for an item not received
•Where an item has not been received, please ensure you have given the seller enough time before opening a dispute

https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/first-dispute

DO NOT CLOSE THE DISPUTE UNTIL YOU HAVE A CLEARED REFUND OR YOUR ITEM WHATEVER THE SELLER SAYS. ALSO DON'T FORGET TO ESCALATE THE DISPUTE TO A CLAIM WITHIN 20 DAYS IF THE SELLER DOES NOT REFUND.

If that does not work then if you funded your paypal payment via a card then contact your card issuer and see if they will do a chargeback for you.

Advice is voluntary.

This sounds like a corporate crap response .Ebay pulled the same crap on me about a car falsly advertised and getting deposit back from seller .i had to deal with an insuranse company becuase niether ebay or paypal would protect me .with 50 people witness to this companys fraud you would think youd offer more than a canned response .

@Gannon1

If you were refering to my response then what i provided was EXACTLY what I have provided to 100's of buyers who have gone on to understand how to open a dispute and get their money back.

But hey if you feel you can do better then please feel free to go and give up your time to help others like I do.

It can't be a corporate response as I have diddley squat to do with paypal.

However you are correct in that 'some' of that information came from paypals help pages but i also ADAPTED it to include other information underneath to help the buyers and give them options. But then I doubt you bothered to read it all.

Just like I doubt you bothered to read that you have NO BUYER PROTECTION ON PAYPAL for motor vehicles, if you did then you would have known beforehand and saved yourself the hassle of being scammed.

Suggest when you have given up your time to help just 1 little person on this forum from being scammed or helped them find or get back their money then you have the right to complain about the information i provide, until then your comment is worthless.

I tried to dispute an item. Didn’t want it. It’s like a hidden company. Cannot find where to return. I do not want the item. I reached out to PayPal and they kept pushing me back to seller. Cannot get anyone to help me return this item and get my money back!

If you could not find the website, from what I know and experience. I have received an email confirmation about the purchased item from them.
If you have this, you can try replying to that email, or at body of the email you will also find their contact details.

I suggest you give them a call, the resolution of your concerns is much faster compared to email.

Yes, I ordered on Sept 23, 2018 and never even got an email

confirming my purchase.  I just sent a dispute claim.

If you have not received any order confirmation from them, you can always

reach out to them through the contact details they have provided in their

website.

I have tried their customer service hotline, and it was good experience.

Their were able to come up with a decent solution to my problem. Just

be patient with the waiting time, because of the high volumes of call.
