HI dave2379 ,

Welcome to the community forum.

This is usually ok. It is may be that the seller just has the wrong email address attached to their eBay account. The important thing is that you ensure you are sending the money as a goods payment. You can also include a message to the seller that mentions the eBay auction number so we will know that is what the payment was for.

You'll find out more about our buyer protection piolicy here https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/buyer-protection . Have a read and make sure that you are protected before sending money.

I hope this helps.

Why are they asking you to do that??

If they send you an invoice for the item then you should be covered by buyer protection HOWEVER you must make sure that they describe the item just as well as the auction terms before you pay it.

If you use the send money option then make sure you use the send money > goods and that should cover you for non receipt of item BUT its more risky if the item was misdescribed as you can't refer to the auction if you need to challenge authenticity etc.

Personally if the item was cheap i would take the risk, but if it was pricy i would tell the seller to relist with a buy it now and then you pay for it via ebay. But make sure he emails you the auction number asap or someone else may bin it.
