Splitting a payment across two cards

Hey all, I was wondering if you would be able to help me with this issue. I am trying to pay for an item which costs around 70 pounds. I have been given a 3v Visa CArd as a gift and I would like to use it to pay for part of the cost. As the card is only worth 25 pounds however, I am going to need to pay the rest of the cost using my normal bank card or account. I am reluctant to try and do this without any guidance, as I would not like to mess it up! Any help appreciated, thank you for your time, Rich

Hi Rich18144,

Welcome to our Community Forum Smiley Happy

I'd like to help you with this one!

When you make a PayPal payment our system will fund the transaction as follows:

1. We will always use what's in your PayPal balance first

2. Next we'll take the funds from your confirmed bank

3. Finally, we'll charge your credit or debit card.

So for example, if you have £20 on your PayPal balance and you make a payment of £30, the £20 will be taken from your balance and the remaining £10 will be charged to your confimed bank.

In your case, it's probably best to add £45 to your PayPal balance first from your bank. At this point you should also add the 3V card to your account.

Once the £45 is sitting on your balance, you can go ahead and make the payment but be careful you choose the 3V card at checkout, as your bank may be chosen by default as your preferred funding source.

Once you choose that card, our system will take the £45 from your balance and charge the remaining £25 to your 3V card as planned.

I hope that helps Rich18144 and have a great weekend,

Conor
