I am raising money for charity & getting people to donate via Paypal to my account which I will then transfer to the charity. Why are fees being deducted from each donation made to me? Is there a way to avoid this?

Hi there Jenamckay,
If you are enquiring about receiving charity payments on your PayPal account, we would need to receive some information from you before we can grant charitable status on your PayPal account.
You would need to have your business registered as a charity in order to receive the charitable rate on payments being received in to your PayPal account. If you have this, you can select Non-profit/Charity when providing us with business information on your PayPal account.
When entering your business information, select the 'Subcategory' link and the 'Most-used Category' link for your organisation. If you already have a Business account, edit this information in your profile by clicking the 'Personal/Business Information' link.
Next, you will need to fax supporting documents to PayPal.
For a non-U.S. based organisation, provide:
• Evidence of tax-exempt status and/or registration with any applicable regulatory bodies governing your jurisdiction
• Link to confirm the organisation's registration status online (if applicable)
• A brief organisational summary or Mission Statement
• Subordination letter from the parent organisation (if applicable)
All documents should be faxed to 08707 303 194, ATTN: Compliance - Due Diligence.
We will review the documents and contact you if further information is needed.
I hope this helps,
David

I wish to collect donations sometimes as little as £1 for a small animal sanctuary which is solely funded by myself not for profit but if deductions are being made from a paypal payment then it is of no preference as the funding does not go to the animals? is there a way that people can make small donations without me being deducted fees from paypal as a £20 monthly fee is too costly?

Hi ellerobins,
We offer a special fee rate for charities. Receiving donations with us costs just 1.4% + 20p. If you run a non-profit organisation you can apply for this rate.
To apply you need to have a Business PayPal account and have identified your business category to be ‘Non-profit’ in the Business Information section found on the Profile page.
You will then be contacted and asked to provide some documents to assist us with our review. The following are some of the documents you may be asked to provide:
• Evidence of tax-exempt status and/or registration with any applicable regulatory bodies governing your jurisdiction
• Link to confirm the organisation's registration status online (if applicable)
• A brief organisational summary or Mission Statement
• Subordination letter from the parent organisation (if applicable)
PayPal will review your application and notify you of the outcome.
Note: This rate is subject to application and pre-approval
I hope this helps
Paula
