i opted to add funds but my transactions had already been paid for by debit card. i have cancelled my direct debit will this stop paypal requesting the money from my account i.e. will i get charged by my bank if the money isnt in. thank u 
Your bank will reject paypal's application for funds and notify them that the direct debit instruction isnt valid. Paypal will likely respond by removing the bank account from your profile. You'll not incur a charge from your bank if you cancelled the direct debit in time
