Hello, (We would always address you by your full name as it appears on your account) As part of our security measures, we regularly screen activity in the PayPal system. We recently contacted you after noticing an issue on your account. We requested information from you for the following reason: We have reason to believe that your account was accessed by a third party. (At this point you should check your PayPal account by logging in outside of this email. You will notice there is no such email) We have limited access to sensitive PayPal account features in case your account has been accessed by an unauthorized third party. We understand that having limited access can be an inconvenience, but protecting your account is our primary concern. Case ID Number: PP-661-601-986 (I've checked and this case number is totally unrelated) This is a third and final reminder to log in to PayPal as soon as possible. (We would never put a 'final reminder' on your limitation like this) Once you log in, you will be provided with steps to restore your account access. We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure account safety. In accordance with PayPal's User Agreement, your account access will remain limited until the issue has been resolved. Unfortunately, if access to your account remains limited for an extended period of time, it may result in further limitations or eventual account closure. We encourage you to log in to your PayPal account as soon as possible to help avoid this. To review your account and some or all of the information that PayPal used to make its decision to limit your account access, please visit the Resolution Center. If, after reviewing your account information, you seek further clarification regarding your account access, please contact PayPal by visiting the Help Center and clicking "Contact Us". We thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Please understand that this is a security measure intended to help protect you and your account. We apologize for any inconvenience. Thanks, PayPal Account Review Department PayPal Email ID PP638 |

I'd also like to note that some of the spoof emails as of late have been addressing me by my full name. Thankfully I'm not as dumb as these guys would like to assume.
Be extra careful. Check who the email is from, and if you're not sure, forward it to PayPal and ask for verifcation.

Hi Paypal
I have sold an item to a person in the US over internet. He claims that he is buying this item for her daughter in Malaysia and requested to pay thru paypal. He claims that he has deposited money into paypal but I can only transfer the money into my bank account once I have emailed the shipping tracking number to an email address for verification and paypal will verify the shipping. Once I have done that, I can transfer the money into my bank account from my paypal account. Can I confirm if this email is genuine before I ship my goods?
I have not seen any pending balances in my paypal account.
The following is an exact of the email:
The payment has been successfully made but due to security reason we have to receive the shipment tracking number before the next 72 hours for the processing of your order.
This a new measure we are taking to protect both our sellers and buyers against fraudulent customers.
Once you have shipped the item send us the shipment tracking number for verification after the number has verify your account will be credited instantly. This PayPal® payment has been deducted from the buyer's account and has been "APPROVED" but will not be credited to your account until the shipment reference/tracking number is sent to us for shipment verification so as to secure both the buyer and the seller. Hi emmawpwee,
Welcome to the community.
I know it can be confusing when you receive emails and you’re not sure… We ask you to report any fake, or 'spoof', emails you receive to help us combat online fraud. These fake emails, also known as phishing emails, attempt to gain access to your personal information by including links to fake websites.
Here’s how to report a fake email:
- Do not change the subject line and do not forward the message as an attachment.
- Forward the email to spoof@paypal.co.uk
- Delete the email from your inbox.
We use the emails you send to investigate and take action against the people responsible. Don't click on any links or download any attachments within the suspicious email before you delete it.
Note:
- If you provided any personal information in response to a phishing email or on a spoof website, change your PayPal password and security questions immediately
- If you provided any financial information, contact your bank and your credit card issuer and tell them about the situation
- Review your recent PayPal account activity to make sure that you authorised all of the transactions
I hope this helps!

Recieved another message today from "paypal @ service.fr"
I believe another scam email. The first time I got this I thought it was genuine as it told me to log into my account but upon doing so (luckily out side of the email) there was no account limitation so I realized these where scams.
I get one once a month or so.

If Paypal has emailed you it will have your full proper name on the first line... i.e Dear Emma.........
if there is no mention of your name or it starts with "Dear Paypal customer" then it is likely to be a scam.. I think I have heard of this type of payment holding before though.. contact paypal direct and they will tell you if its genuine...If its come from the buyer then I think your right to be wary!!

Hi emmawpwee
This is a typical SCAM
Ppal do NOT ask u to send tracking info in order to receive payment
When u get paid u will see the money in your ppal account and will receive a confirmation from ppal to inform u of this
Always check the money is in your account and says completed before shipping
The emails arent from ppal but from your scammer
Pal always address you as Dear Full Name
Never ask u for personal/sensitive info
Never ask u to click on links/downloads
