building society accounts

i only have BS accounts and have been told by my bank that these are no longer accepted by paypal does anyone know why?

Hi there Ladyshrew,

Only certain Building Society Accounts are eligible with the PayPal system. If a customer is attempting to register and confirm a building society account on their PayPal account, it will only complete if your building society accept electronic direct debit's.

A lot of building societies are not eligible with the PayPal system because the only feature that is available when funding a payment from your bank account is by using an electronic direct debit once it has been activated.

I would not think that there would be an issue if you are wishin to withdraw funds from your PayPal account to your building society account. A direct debit does not need to be in place for this type of transfer so there should be no problem if you are attempting to do this.

Hi I am wanting to use my prepaid mastercard (with direct debits enable) as my main paypal account for people to pay into. However I have a Payment reference that I need to use and there doesn't seem to be a section for this?

Hi there TrixMulryan,

When withdrawing funds in the UK you can only do so to a bank account so your prepaid MasterCard couldn't be used for people to pay into. When you add a bank account you will be able to withdraw your funds to it.

Which Building Society Accounts are allowed by PayPal?  One answer seems to suggest that some are accepted whereas another answer suggests that none are accepted and only Bank Accounts can be used.  Can anyone clarify the situation and clearly state which, if indeed any, Societies are accepted?

I'm afraid there is no definative answer we can give as it totally depends on the building society in question. Some building societies are set up for online banking and others are not (they need to be!)

I am from the UK and would like to use the Nationwide Building Society which most definitely uses online banking but PayPal doesn't seem to accept it.  Can anything be done?
