Paypal users please beware of a scam Email regarding payments to Skype Inc. I have just received an Email supposedly from Paypal regarding payment for 3 months subscriptin to Skype Inc. The Email states that if you have not authorised this payment then please click on "cancel payment" button.
Please ignore this Email as I do not believe this is from Paypal as it does not state my name, ebay membership or Email address as the recipient - it simply welcomes the Paypal Client.
Also when I clicked on cancel payment it redirected me to another site which I immediately closed without entering any personal details.
Thanks Pam

Hi everyone,
Just to confirm, we have received a lot of contacts in regards to this and I can confirm that the emails you are all receiving are not genuine PayPal emails.
We would always address the emails to your first and last names as it appears on your PayPal account. We would also never ask you to click on a link on an email in order to cancel/dispute a transaction.
Could you all please forward the emails you received to spoof@paypal.com and then delete the emails from your email inbox?
There is nothing that we can do to prevent these emails from being sent to customers but we can only give as much help and advice as possible when receiving emails. Always be vigilant and if you are any way unsure if the email is genuine or not, check your PayPal account and if you can't confirm the activity in the email, I would nearly be sure that it's not a genuine email.
Please let me know if you need anything else.
David.

was selling furniture on gumtree and reieved email wishing to purchase , they sent email saying a payment was in paypal account for full amount agreed and a extra £110 to pay for courier that they wanted me to pay it all looked authenticand even had paypal logo, i sent the £110 through to western union but they then said they had forgot to pay for insurance to courier and a extra £110 was sent again to my paypal account for this with a connection to paypal to view, again i sent payment, the next time they emailed me they asked for £200 as this had been over paid to my account , i checked with paypal independently and they have no knowledge of this i am now down £220 and have forwarded all my emails to paypal and hope they investigate this and come back to me.

Why on earth would you send payment via western union a rival to paypal, why would paypal want you to do so??
Whilst they may investigate as it was a transaction that was nothing to do with paypal you won't get your money back.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

How stupid to use Western Union, once sent by them it just cannot be traced, and you will see lots of warnings on sites NOT to use Western Union....
Typical scam.......

Hi pamermanser,
Welcome to the UK Community Forum and thanks for posting!
If you clicked on the link in the email that claimed to be from PayPal, you need to take action as soon as possible. If you provided any card details or bank account details, I would recommend contacting your card issuer or bank to prevent unauthorised use.
If you entered in your PayPal email address and password, you will need to change your password and security questions as soon as possible. Here’s how to change your password or security questions:
- Log in to your PayPal account at www.paypal.co.uk
- Click ‘Profile’ near the top of the page.
- Click ‘Change’ beside ‘Password.’
- Choose the account information you want to change and click ‘Edit.’
- Enter your new password or security questions and answers, and click ‘Save.’
From personal experience and for further peace of mind, I’d suggest running a full virus scan on your computer too, to ensure that no viruses are present.
I hope this helps,
Maria
