PayPal told me that my credit card rejected my payment = wrong

I tried to buy a DVD carrying case on e-bay using a credit card to pay PayPal but it was rejected as I entered the incorrect CVV the first time. 7minutes later I tried again wuth the correct CVV & the payment was accepted. Paypal e-mailed me today to say that my payment had been rejected by my credit card company & wanted me to set up my bank account instead ro pay them. I contacted my credit card company who told me that the first attempt was rejected because of incorrect CVV but the next was accepted & that PayPal had cgarged my credit card with 64pence - a lot lower than it should have been. PayPal have no record of this but I prefer to trust my credit card company. The company selling the DVD carrying case have only contacted me via e-bay regarding a question I asked, which they haven`t answered but they told me that they were out of the office until yesterday. I don`t know what is going on. I`ve e-mailed PayPal as I refused to use an expensive 0870 number. What am I supposed to do now as they have charged my credit card albeit the wrong amount but maintain thet the payment was rejected which my credit card company has refuted. What do I do when the selling company won`t contact me & PayPal has made a mistake?

You don't enter your card or cvv2 number on the PayPal website every time you make a payment, only when you are adding the card to your account. Most likely you simply added the card to your account and it is now available to make a payment if you wish. The e-mail is sent automatically if a card is rejected, regardless if it is resolved later. The best thing to do is check your PayPal account to see if a) there has been a payment and b) if the card is still active on your profile.

The 64p would be the verification temporary charge that goes through every time a card is added or changed, it confirms that the card exists and is usually refunded withint 24-48 hours.
