Confirming Bank Account

Greetings,
I signed up for a Pay Pal account yesterday but when it came time to confirm my bank account missed the callback because I'm disabled, was in the house alone at the time and could not get to the telephone. OK I thought, try again tomorrow and make sure somebody is in with me to grab the phone.
Now having tried again I find the confirmation code has been sent to my bank account and I should confirm it within one hour. The bank is alread closed for business for today. Unfortunately I have never set my accounts up for online banking (and have no intention of doing so).
Is there any way I can confirm my bank account that does not involve running to the phone or doing business with my bank online do you simply assume that all your customers are robots programmed to live our lives exactly the same way.
