Hello,
I have opened a eBay account and paypal account when I was living in the UK. A year and a half ago I moved to Australia. I have closed all my bank accounts in the UK and shredded my old credit cards. Now I want to use my eBay account in Australia but my Paypal account is still in the UK. In order to change this I need to close the UK account and open an Australian account. To close my UK account paypal wants my credit card details to verify it's me closing the account. And there is my problem. The bank accounts have been closed for a number of years and my credit card has been shredded. I have no idea what my credit card number is. Even to email paypal I still need the bloody number!!!! Has anyone had the same problem??? Anybody any suggestion? All the help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi there Thijsaalders,
When a customer is trying to close a PayPal account, you may be requested to enter information in order to verify that it is you when closing the account.
I fully understand that you don't have the creit card number anymore. You could possibly run around in circles unless you can get in contact with us in order for us to assist you further.
If you have a different email address, you should be able to open a new account in Australia while your UK account is open also. If you do this, you should then be able to register financial information on your new account and then use it when making purchases.
Alternatively, you can try to contact us by clicking the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of any page in order for us to investigate this further for you.
I hope this helps,
David.

Same problem here, moved to another country -> have to open another account, can't close the old one as I don't have my old credit card anymore.
The "contact us" form just send me automatic answers though.

Hi classe-tumblr,
Welcome to the Community Forum!
Banks and card issuers are obliged to keep details of old cards on file for seven years.
Why don't you give your card issuer a ring as I am confident that they will be able to give you the number that you need.
Hope this helps
Conor

I figured out how to close your account without using your credit card for verification. Go to your credit cards tab and click edit cards. Remove any cards your have on file and then go back to the profile tab > settings > close account . It should no longer ask you to enter the Credit card number you had on file, since they no longer exist. THis works! I just closed one of my old accounts .
