Hi all BE AWARE of scammers trying to get YOU to pay for THIER delivery charges I have been asked to pay money via Western Union to cover the costs of transport fees for an item i was selling on Gumtree i was sent multiple FAKE PAYPAL EMAILS ( which did not look right) i was told that payment was pending ( PAYPAL do NOT have "pending payments) !!! I have received 3 other txt messages re my ad and they are ALL from the same people who are in the scam : Eric Casteleyne Laura phillips Rose Lama and watmarry ? they all use Gmail account so please be alert I have informed PayPal I am now receiving threatening emails re legal action and I am very scared NOT ! i have blocked the above named people on the initial rext messages they sent me ( some come through as GUMTREE AD! please be careful ps u can google Eric he is on facebook and his profile said something about warehouse/ furniture etc not a nice looking character

I tried to sale pram on gumtree and I received same message from Laura and its totally same story. she can't come to collect but can pay via paypal. THIS IS TOTAL SCAM

June 10th 2017 - this scam is still going on. I received suspicious emails (below) and a quick google search showed I was right to be wary. Just thought I would post in case anyone else comes across this person.

the same is just happening to me. Buyer name Victoria Morgan, ask me to help transfer more than 300 pounds of delivery cost for a 170 pounds speaker. What a joke!

Same happened to me yesterday 15 August 2017. I had replied before I read this post 😞 thinking great I have sold my item and the realised it was a scan, i have reported it to PayPal and NFIB Phishing. I just wish I'd see the posts 1st:-(. Anyone know anything else I should do etc? What are these scammers likely to do with my info?

SCHEME IN GUMTREE AND MAYBE MANY OTHER TRADING SITES. SCAMMERS IN ACTION! DONT LET THEM TAKE YOUR MONEY! I had the same problem with Rose Lewis lerose22 etc Exactly the same. Request for delivery cost to send to courier,fake email that said that this person have paid money on my account, but there is nothing there. And after all these this scum frighten you with police and legal action. Everybody who became or nearly become a froud victim needs to report it to paypal and aware other people in social sites and forums. Fight the Scum! Be informed and aware! Let other people to be informed about possible scum attack!

Hi all,

When someone pays you using PayPal, it should all be visible on your PayPal account. If it isn't showing then Yes it is a scam.

Here are some helpful tips how you can spot a fake buyer:
Normally they go after an expensive or high end item.
If the email notification says that you have receive funds but when you check your PayPal account it is not there then that email notification is fake.
If they're asking for the item to be shipped or to make a payment to Western Union or Money Gram they are just trying to get you to send the item or pay them some money. Please do not send the item or make any payment to anyone since it is not the correct process.
If the offer sounds too good to be true. For example the item cost £300 and they are paying £450 this should raise suspicion.
Lastly, do not just rely on email notification because it could be fake. Anyone can easily change the From: section of the email and can copy the email format of PayPal. Always check your PayPal account by logging in to www.paypal.co.uk. Any payment that has been sent to you should show up on your PayPal account whatever the status is.
