Security Key - Signing in on Ebay

Hello All,

I am just wondering how to get around a problem I am faced with regarding paypals security key. I have never requested one and my account shows as much, however whenever I try to log in to Ebay, it asks me for my 6 digit security key and because I dont have one I have to go through the annoying process of clicking the 'forgotten security key' function and them then  phoning me with an automated temporary code. Any advice appreciated, Many thanks

Welcome to the PayPal community forum, 

If you are getting this message then I would say there may have been a security key set up on your account. 

Here's how to check and de-activate it to ensure you can log in easily. 

1. Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in to your account.
2. Click ‘Profile’ near the top of the page.
3. Select ‘My account settings.’
4. Click 'Update' in the Security Key section.
5. Select which Security Key you want to deactivate and click ‘Deactivate Security Key.’

You can reactivate your Security Key at any time at no additional charge.

It isn't a Paypal issue (I have spent days trying to resolve this). There is no record of a security key on any paypal account of mine. Apparently it is an ebay security key (despite the fact that the picture shows a paypal image).

Only ebay can sort this out.

Hi there,

I have the same problem.. My Paypal account shows that I do not have a security key.  I cannot even access my Ebay account as Ebay has never phoned me when I have asked them to.  Somebody out there must know what we can do.  I have my fingers crossed

I also have the problem that I haven't requested a security key, I can log into paypal on its own ok however when I try to log into my ebay it asks for the security number then when I ask for the temp key it is 4 digits and doesn't work.  How can I get this to stop I have checked my paypal account and it says I have no security keys at all.  Please help as I am at my wits end and ready to delete everything.

Try this.

1) Log in with Username/Password
2) Enter anything for the security key code
3) Repeat step 2 until you get the error “Maximum Tries Reached”
4) Click “Lost / Damaged Security Key”
5) Follow Instructions

Hi there,

Well I have finally sorted out this probelm.  I rang eBay customer services.  After explaining the problem to them, they tested everything and to cut a long story short, they have fixed it!!  I am totally impressed by ebay customer services and their UK counterparts.  They wanted to help, wasnt put off when suggestions failed and although I was on the phone to them for 56 minutes (no idea what that will have cost!) they eventually sorted the problem, removed the security key page and I can log in safely to ebay again.  I thought when I logged in from my work computer and my laptop the problem might be there but, no, everything is fine.

I suggest you ring them.  I know they are in the US (or at least I think they are) but I have nothing but good things to say about them.  It beats getting frustrated, logging a lost key etc. etc.  They told me at the end of the call that they were grateful to me for logging this problem as they now had a solution they could offer other users.

I want to call ebay but i can't get a phone number as i can't get through the security key which i don't have on either ebay or paypal.  Does anyone have a phone number, united states?
