Missed personal call from PayPal?

I got a missed call from the following number (Removed by Moderator) last Friday [8th June]. I was at work so couldn't take the call, but they didn't leave a voicemail so I wasn't notified I'd even missed the call until browsing through my call log today.
I put the number into google and a lot of forum posts came up saying it's PayPal calling to confirm account figures. Some also said it was a scam and closed their account.
I don't know what to do because, although I did make a payment VIA PayPal on 8th June, I have never been contacted by PayPal personally before. The number is +1, therefore an international number and would cost a fortune to return.
Should I ring back or wait for them to call me again? Is it even PayPal trying to contact me??! Should I write them an email about this?

Firstly, I have removed the number that you had entered on your post due to security reasons.
I can't see your PayPal account so I couldn't be sure that someone from PayPal had tried to contact you without success. What I can advise is that from time to time, we may try contacting customer's in order to confirm that you had initiated a recent payment through your account.
Can I ask if you know where you were when you initiated your payment on the 8th of June? If it's possible that you were not at home when attempting the payment, this could be why we may have tried contacting you in order to be sure that you had made the payment through your account.
My best advice for you would be to try contacting customer services directly and we can investigate this further on your behalf and let you know if someone from PayPal had tried to call you or not.

Hi David,
Thank you for your reply. As it happens I was not at home when I initiated the purchase - I was at work. I was logged into my account with the website I was shopping on though, and did select "pay by PayPal" at the checkout [at which point I was redirected to the PayPal website as always - to log in and confirm the purchase].
I checked the email receipt of my order confirmation which was sent at 5.03pm, roughly the same time I got the [missed] phone call.
It would seem that your explanation for the call does ring true. Do you think I will be personally contacted again before I contact customer services directly?
