I have been having trouble opening pages while i'm logge in to paypal.

I have no problem logging in, but occassionally when i want to open certain pages, for example, "Request Money", I get a blank webage with an error message that says

" Bad Request"

"Your browser sent a request that this service could not understand"

"Size of a request header field exceeds server limit"

I'm using Firefox 10.0.2, which the browser tells me my version is up to date. Sometimes when i switch the page to IE, the page can be open. But sometimes this doesn't work either.

I have a screen cap of the error page i get:

Paypal error 01.JPG

I have only been experiencing this problem the recent 2 weeks. Please let me know where does the problem lie and how to go about resolving it. Thanks.

There is nobody home at paypal......I give up.

Now this cookie problem, it's been like this for 6 months.

Paypal servers are slow to login, page refresh takes forever.

If my Bank can do it online, Paypal could too....I think they don't care.

So many of my customers prefer to use the credit card gateway now,

because Paypal policy of trying to force everybody to open an account.

Paypal will NOT fix the problem. I have been working with them for months trying to fix the problem. Here is their last reply: This department, Merchant Technical Services, is for supporting merchants with development issues adding PayPal to website and not to address or troubleshoot issues using the PayPal site.

"I apologize for any inconvenience. PayPal Merchant Technical Services provides assistance with integrating PayPal as a payment solution on the merchant's web site. Unfortunately, we don't have the account access available to research this particular issue for you, so you will need to contact PayPal Merchant Solutions for better assistance. The Merchant Solutions team is specially trained to address any problems you're having browsing or accessing the PayPal website.

They will not fix the problem. After telling me they are working on the issue this is my latest response from them:

Does anyone recommend an alternative to paypal for merchant account?

elijah,

Since this problem with PayPal does not seem to get any attention over a loong time, I switched to working on Google Checkout/Wallet instead.

Works like a charm, has the same features I needed (great sandbox, subscription handling, notifications, ..), and was MUCH simpler to set up. Their samplecode works right off the bat.

Working in  a jiffy and now fully up and running. The time spent on PayPal is now sunk cost. Maybe I will look at it again if they fix the issues eventually.

Note though, that Google has an advantage of "no history" (and maybe better developers) in theyr payment handling. PayPal has not managed their many year history very well in documentation and code.

I think PayPal might have gotten too cocky from being THE solution for a while. Feeling no need to keep it maintained and support developers. From reading a lot of PayPal developer docs I notice that the docs are patch upon patch, and often refer to the wrong places. Like in a How-To page telling people to first download what turns out to be the latest Beta code, and then the whole document describing how to use the OLD style RVP coding (not relevant to the the download just picked up at all).

Its like the docs never gets fully updated and you need to read a 100 difffent docs to pick pieces from all of them. History upon history upon history.

BTW.. Some advice on the development. There simply is not enough browsers to keep all the real, sandbox, test buyers, test seller, and other accounts straight without disturbing each other's cookies. It can get quite annoying. Google's account system uses Google Accounts/YouTube account tracking even for test accounts, so they all bang heads quite a bit.

So I ended up running test environments in Virtual PC inside my workstation, so I would develop and test separately on my screens without logging in and out of various accounts all the time. Worked like a charm. Of course you could use multiple physical workstations for the same effect. 🙂

I, too, get this constantly on all browsers. This is a bug on your end. The work-around of clearing cookies daily is NOT a solution, if for no other reason than it clears out the cookies I want to keep.

Hi,

Like the many other people who have posted, I have also only started getting this issue this year. On both firefox and Internet explorer. Clearing the cache does work but I have to do it more than once a day. I have also been using paypal for many years and have never had this error before. Having to clear the cache so much is very frustrating and it does happen at the most annoying times - such as having made a load of changes within profile or a custom payment page and then trying to save it. Is this being investigated?

Regards

I am sorry but you don't know what you are talking about. "So far there are no known issues" What A CROCK!!!

I have been complaining about this since LAST YEAR and paypal hasn't fixed it yet. It really ticks me off.

Check out ticket #111129-000454 to see that THERE ARE KNOWN ISSUES -- PAYPAL JUST ISNT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT!! I am sick of having to delete my paypal cookies EVERY DAY just to log in to conduct my business. EVERY DAY. You know how annoying that is? And here I see you -- a representative of paypal, saying there are NO KNOWN ISSUES.

Why don't you start caring about your customers and don't deceive them? And FIX THE DARN PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!

GRRRRRRRRR.

I'm getting this error all the time - almost every link to the paypal site I click on has been resulting in this Bad Request message, not only in Chrome but also in Firefox and in Internet Explorer. Even clicking the 'reply' link here for the forum caused the problem to occur.

I deleted my cookies in Chrome and that seems to have helped. It's weird that this suddenly started happening regardless of what browser I use though. ?
