I have no bank account to link to so how can I use paypal? I used to have one but no longer do.

I used to have a bank account.  Since I rarely used it I got rid of it ($12 per month adds up!).

When I unlinked it from my account, I all of a sudden find that I no longer can purchase things on ebay - even though I have money in my account!!!

I have a walmart money card that I have direct deposited to that I tried to link, but it won't allow that either.

I've been using paypal for 10 years.

As an aside, I've tried to change my phone number (I switched carriers as AT&T no longer had good deals) but when I try to change it, the verification text message never comes through.

I've tried contacting paypal and all I get are generic responses that tell me to link my bank account.  At this point, I'm getting fed up and am considering filing a theft of funds complaint....

  Hi  txplanebuilder

If you have a credit or debit card, you can add that as a payment method ... if you don't have either of those, you could apply for a Paypal card.  Do not need a bank account for purchasing only...can use  just a credit card.

If you have money in your Paypal Account they will take it from there first, then your credit card...

Hope this info helps your problem...  Try changing your phone number after you straighten out your Card problem, it might work after that. If not, post back again or use the "Contact Us" link to call Paypal Customer Service.

** Checkout the info listed below as a guideline.

   Info from the Help Center:

When you link your debit or credit card to your PayPal account, please keep these security measures in mind:

  • The billing address you enter must exactly match the one on your card statement. Check your card statement to make sure that the addresses match.
  • You can’t link a gift card, prepaid card, or one-time-use card to your PayPal account.
  • A card can only be linked to one PayPal account at a time. (To remove a card from your account, go to your Profile.) If you have more than one Paypal Account... you can only use the same credit card for one of your accounts.
  • If you linked your card to your PayPal account but entered the confirmation code incorrectly 3 times, please call us. We can help you finish linking your card. We may ask you to provide some additional information. See "Contact Us"

I have a debit card linked to the account.  Still gives me a 'you've reached your limit of 10,000' blurb.

Why it does this when I am trying to spend $50 and have a 58.00 balance....

  Hi txplanebuilder

ok.. so it doesn't seem to have anything to do with no bank account...  because you do have a debit card on file...

Is the 50.00 you are spending include shipping etc ?    If it was more than you have in your Paypal Account, it should then go to your debit/credit card for the balance...  I am not sure why it is not....

Make sure you are logged in to Paypal and click on their  " Contact Us" link (at bottom of most pages) & follow links to their phone number ( they will give you a code to give the Rep.... good for a certain amount of time to call )....  They may be having a "glitch" in their system.....  Log Out of paypal.... Try cleaning out your browser cache, cookies & temp files... and log in fresh from www.paypal.com try your changes,  and see if that helps also...

Post back if  and let us know if either of these has worked to fix your problem

______Just want to add this info for you... this was in Paypal Help Center______

So I would call them & have them take a look at your account... and ask them also about your phone number...

How will my payments be funded?

When you pay for something, the first thing we do is check your PayPal balance to see if it’s enough to cover the payment. If you have enough money in your balance, we’ll use it to make the payment.

If you have some money in your PayPal balance but not enough, we’ll use your PayPal balance plus another payment method linked to your account.

If you don’t have any money in your PayPal balance, we’ll use another payment method linked to your account.

When you don’t have a PayPal balance or don’t have enough in your PayPal balance, we’ll use your bank account as the default payment method unless you select a different way to pay.

To make sure you’re using the payment method you want, check the Review Your Payment page.

Note:

  • If you have PayPal Smart Connect, a PayPal Plus MasterCard, a PayPal Debit MasterCard, or an eBay MasterCard, you can make that your default payment method.
  • Once a payment has been sent to another PayPal account, the funding source cannot be changed.

The amount i tried to spend including shipping is below my balance.  I've tried to talk to paypal.  Via emails.  Etc.  I'll call as a last resort as I hate trying to talk to offshore.
