Canadian user with US-dollar bank account, I cannot use it

I am a Canadian translator with clients in the U.S.
I opened a US-dollar account in a Canadian bank, thinking it would make collection and payments easier.
But when I try to connect my bank account to my Paypal account, the site tells me the money transfers will be in Canadian dollars. Which defeats my purpose.
I cannot open a US PayPal account because the branch and financial institution numbers don't have the same number of digits.
Ideas? Suggestions? Workarounds?

You are the seller, you receive the funds. Let your client pay you in Canadian dollars so you can withdraw them for free, without any transfer cost. Ask your bank to set account back.

There is no such thing as "setting the account back".
I phoned PayPal and there is nothing I can do.
I'll keep the account open for paper cheques.
