Can not change primary email address

I have added my new address.  Paypal will not let me make it the primary - I just get a message saying it is already on the account.

Paypal won't let me delete my old primary email.

I'm using paypal.fr because I live in France

Had the same issue.

 

The problem is you have to release the email use from previous noticfication settings.

 

Here is what you do.

Click the "Cog" at the top right of the a screen to get to your profile.

Once there click the Notifications tab

You will now see your email address with an arrow next to it.

Click the arrow and it will open a list of the emails you have on file.

Uncheck the one you no longer want to use.

Then you should be able to go back and make the new email address primary.

 

This worked for Paypal US, hope it is the same for France.

AWESOME!!!!!!!   Finally I was able to make the change.  Thank you this advise was most helpful.  Wish I had found this message about an hour ago.  Thank you!!!

go to your account, click on gear icon (it will say profile), hit the +, add the new email.  Then you'll get an email notification sent to the email you just added, to confirm the new email you just added.  Click on the email link.  Now it will add the email to your account.  Click on update, then it will how your email.  Now hit change email.  It will now show primary under this new email.  Now if you log out and log back in, go to the gear icon, click notifications on the tab, you should see your new email address updated.  

 

A couple of tips, if you call the 1 888 number under "contact" paypal, you will get all of these advertisements and automated solicitiations.  But at any point when it's silent, just say AGENT.  Until you get to the agent.  Even if you get an automated PAYPAL voice, that want's you assist you, just say AGENT or hit 0 and you will go right to an agent.  The agent I got was absolutely wonderful, and very helpful and walked me right through the issue of why I couldn't update the primary account online.  My issue was the email I was trying to use was already linked to another paypal account that I opened a long time ago, and forgot about.  So once she deleted the account for me all toghether, I was able to ADD the email account to my exisiting account, and then update the account to my primary account.
