I have had a PayPal account for eBay and receiving payments for a while now, and I was fully verified on an old bank account. I have since closed that account and un-linked it from my PayPal wallet. I opened a PayPal prepaid debit card account to use for my banking because the nature of my work lends itself to receiving payments online and I would rather simplify things. I recently lost my phone, and I'm getting a new phone with a new number once I can access the funds in my Paypal account.
I went to link my prepaid debit card as my bank account, and followed the instructions on their page. After submitting my routing number and account number, I got a message stating Paypal "doesn't recognize the device" I'm using - which is the exact same computer that I have always used for this account, with an identical IP address (I triple checked it!). Since I don't have a phone at the moment, I entered and verified my girlfriend's phone number, with her explicit permission.
Now, when I attempt to receive a security code to link the prepaid account, Paypal states "It appears this phone is not registered in your name, please select a different number". I have over 10 outstanding invoices that I can't accept because I am no longer verified and I am unable to link to a new account to become verified because Paypal won't accept my girlfriend's phone number, that I am using with full permission.
The big problem here is, I CANT get a new phone until Paypal allows me to receive payments! I have e-mailed and called when I was able,only to be transferred several times and then be disconnected randomly mid-transfer (two times!). I'm supremely frustrated with Paypal, and seriously regretting my decision to use this as my primary banking entity.
