Best to review PayPal seller protection requirements

Tangible goods (your virtual goods would not apply)

You are covered under paypal seller protection. So dont worry paypal will help you. I am also facing a case now in which buyer has made a totally false claim. i am also service provider and i have also submited proofs to paypal. Freelance service is now covered with paypal seller protection so no need to worry this is what i was assured.

digital goods are still not covered

Most goods and services paid for in a single payment via a PayPal account are eligible for seller protection, except for list below:

  • Vehicles, including motorcycles, caravans, aircrafts and boats
  • Claims or Chargebacks for ‘Significantly Not as Described'
  • Items that you deliver in person, including at a point of sale
  • Digital Goods
  • PayPal Direct Payments (including Virtual Terminal Payments, Website Payments Pro/Plus payments), PayPal Here payments and PayPal carrier billing products
  • Items that are sent after PayPal has advised the Seller not to release the item

Yes i am aware of this because i read that agreement 5 times. With service i said freelance services like software/web development and its covered. You can just google paypal for freelance services you will underatand. Digital goods not covered from long back. And in my case buyer didnt say that he didnt recieve service or not as described rather he has made a totally false claim saying our deal was about mobile phone and not about service. Because service i had completed and he had accepted so i presented that proof to paypal. And regarding his claim: The claim he is making about a phone is not even released so its not listed on site criaglist from where he purchased from me he mentioned in false claim. And since he will be caught if asked for proof so that guy says we had talk on phone but criagslist never displays phone no first as it displays email. I have 6 proofs to prove buyer is fake and in such cases paypal sides seller and not buyer this thing i was assured by them on phone. I will wait and see how this case goes ahead and will let you know paypal is safe for bother buyers and sellers or not. From conversation with paypal executives i think paypal sees both sides and doesnot give decision by seeing just one side.

Reappeal in that case. Show paypal proof of your chats with him. Show email where he had contacted you asking for your service. Truth should never lose. Call paypal tell them to connect you to claims specialist or back office and provide them your email acc credentials so let them check that he had contacted you for service and agreed for service and so you were paid and it was not an un authorised transaction. Otherwise such buyers/ clients can fool more people. You have to do your part to make the online enviornment safe. Paypal trying to make safe for buyers so thay they can have experience better than offline but its our duty to help paypal in investigation and if buyer is a cheater then proving it and making net safe place for sellers also.

An unauthorized charge will cannot be disputed by the seller.  If it is through a credit card, then there is little PayPal can do.

This is where seller protection comes into play.  PayPal will refund to seller all the costs of the unauthorized charge, but seller must comply with all PayPal requirements , including TANGIBLE goods which this was not.

Here are the details:
