Getting money back in emergency?

So I am talking to a friend of mine (met him through the internet some months ago)  who found a "trick" in a game with which you could have more fun.

He wants that I pay for the trick to see how it works, which I am willing to do, but my problem is that I am not sure if he will run with the money or actually be honest and show me the "trick".

I know there is a buyer protection, but because we are not talking about a real life item, I am unsure if I still have that buyer protection!

Another thing is that he told me to put the money on his 2nd Paypal account, because his main one is just for the company.

So my questions are:

1. Can I take the money back, even when we are trading with real life items? (For example with opening a dispute)

2. Is it possible to gain the money back when it was moved to another account by the friend?

All help is appreciated and thanks in advance!! 🙂

Hi DrAhoy,

Welcome to the Community and great question!

PayPal does offer coverage for intangible items for US buyers, although you must send it as a commercial payment and not as a friends and family payment.  We have more information here: https://www.paypal.com/security.

In the event PayPal finds a claim in your favor, you receive a refund - even if the seller doesn't have the funds in their account.

Thanks!
