What?? Why not though? Couldn't I just call Paypal or eBay customer service and have them reverse it or something?

They can't reverse a refund.
They can only get payments back via a dispute from a buyer.
They can't force a buyer to send you money when you have voluntarily refunded them.
They can't force a buyer to send your item back to you.
What you are supposed to do is wait for the item to be returned and then refund, if you didn't do that then paypal / ebay can't do anything about it.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Seller protection is a joke! It should be rename as "Ebay/Paypal Profit Protection." A seller can issue a buyer a refund and the buyer can refuse to send the item back and there is nothing the seller can do! Paypal can freeze your account and hold your proceeds for the sale but when it comes to the buyer stealing your item Paypal says there's nothing they can do! How about refunding my refund to the buyer! This seems to be beyond them. To top it off I cannot even post the buyers ID on the forum to warn other would be buyers and sellers because deems it "inappropriate." So I guess what the buyer did to me is appropriate! And no one should know who they're dealing with when buying or selling on Ebay and being forced to use Paypal as the payment method. Once again this only goes to increase my distain for Ebay and Paypal for there protectionism of unscrupulas buyers and sellers in order to meet Ebay's and Paypal's bottom line and protect their monopoly in the market. Of course freedom of speach only goes so far under their corporate constitution. And yes, I am expecting this message to be taken down also!

Well as a seller i don't issue a refund until i have received an item back again.
However this thread has nothing to do with what you are posting as this seller in the original post refunded by mistake.
Not sure why you think paypal will remove your message??
