Hi I was wanting to know if I'm protected with PayPal if I buy a item through a private transaction through PayPal.
Thanks in advance.

Depends on what you buy.
Depends on how you pay (via paypal).
Depends on how you fund the payment .
Depends on who you are buying from.
Depends on if you qualify for buyer protection.
Depends on if you pay in installments.
You need to read up on buyer protection and then risk assess your transaction.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

Thought i'd jump on here rather than start a new thread.
For example, if I bought a camera and paid through the 'pay for goods and services' option and paid the amount in full from either paypal account or a combination of this and credit card
Thanks

Hello Giraffe208,
Thanks for jumping in and providing a specific example. 🙂
In general, most tangible items are covered by PayPal's Buyer Protection, including cameras. There are some exceptions and they vary a little from country to country. The best thing to do (as kernowlass mentioned) is to check out the requirements and terms for PayPal's Buyer Protection and make sure you're covered. Navigate to www.paypal.com, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Legal, click on the dropdown to choose your country (select Other Countries if yours isn't listed), click PayPal User Agreement and then scroll down to the section labeled Protection For Buyers.
As an example, in the US, PayPal is not able to cover purchases that involve motor vehicles, industrial machinery and items that are prohibited by the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy. For the most part, however, purchases of tangible goods that are paid for using the "goods/services" option (NOT the Friends & Family option) should be covered.
I hope this information is helpful and I hope your online endeavors are all successful. Thanks for being a part of the PayPal Community!
