dollar general in store payment

I went to dollar general this wknd and saw they now offered paypal on their credit card machine. I asked the cashier how to use it... she had no idea. I decided to try it out. It asked for my mobile #, I input. Then it asked for passcode. I wasn't sure so I hit cancel. Then I came home, got on paypal and saw the mobile pin number. Since I had to use my mobile # I assumed that's how it worked. Later I had to go back for a forgotten item, hit paypal, input mobile number, then input the pin # I had set up. It came back an error, the cashier didn't have any idea what to do so I cancelled again. WHAT PASSCODE AM I SUPPOSED TO USE? Its become obvious dollar general added this feature and then did nothing to train their employees on it. I've now asked 3 different cashiers and none of them know anything about it.

I went to dollar general to redeem the $10 off $30 deal and when it was time to pay, I used the payal option without being asked for a pin. I assumed that's how simple it was suppose to be but I haven't seen my account show a credit for the $10. My total came to $35 but I thought it would show as a $25 purchase. Guess I have to call customer service and find out that somehow I screwed up!

i have tried to use paypal at DG several times

once with a 4 digit pin and my cell#

once with an 8 digit pin and my cell#

once with my card and 8 digit pin

IT HAS NEVER EVER WORKED

and the cashiers have no bloody idea!!!!

my account is attached to my checking account

i just made 3 purchases thru ebay with no issue....

do i have to have money in my paypal account or will it automatically deduct from the checking like ebay and all online transactions do?

and it would be nice if an actual paypal employee were on these boards to help....

My  husband went to dollar general and tried using my phone number and my pin to purchase a few items but it didn't go through. So being that I was at home I googled it and I found this. As I was reading everyones comments someone had left a LINK to go on in order to register your paypal account for in-store purchases. I clicked on the LINK updated my mobile phone number as well as my pin and then called my husband to try it again and it FINALLY worked. If you guys are having problems I would high recommend that you guys do what I did. I tried copying the link on here but it didnt work. However if you read the comments someone has it on there. GOOD LUCK !!!!

Having set up a PIN w. my phone, I failed repeatedly until "activating" my paypal account per the instructions in other posts in this forum.  Once activated, SHAZAM! Magic happiness--it worked!  DG clerk told me I was the first in her store to make it work.  Thanks, Forum!  How brilliant is paypal to make spending money this much fun?

Can someone PLEASE tell me if there is any store where I can make a purchase using PayPal in store checkout (using my mobile and pin #) and then get cash back?

Went and tried to use the paypal payment card at DG yesterday and couldn't get it to work.  I've setup my 4 digit Pin, I acctivated the card and i have a mobile phone linked.  I've done everything that i was told to do per paypal.   How exactly did you get your card to work?

Am i missing something? Plz Help.

I had the problem to ... I went in the first dollar general and I had already set up my account to make in store payments it was denied 😞 So I left and got to messing with it. I noticed it kept trying to send me to the mobile app.. I already had on my phone but if you tap on your profile picture it opens up a menu . In there is paying with Paypal local ... So I clicked on that and in there I had to turn the option on to pay with mobile number....... Went to store and this time it worked fine so if your still having issues and running paypal mobile app, check and make sure you have pay with mobile number on.

I also had issues with using my mobile at Dollar General, came home and called Paypal and they are very helpful in fixing the issues. There are a few steps you must go through first. Go to paypal.com/anywhere and start the process. Hope this helps! Now off to go and try it

Hi there. I'm a reporter at Reuters and I'm doing a story about why consumers would use this new PayPal in-store payment service. Isn't it just easier to swipe the credit or debit card you already have? What's the benefit of PayPal? I'm interested in any thoughts from real consumers.

Simple reason: irregular cashflows.  For example, I have cash from ebay sales in my paypal account, but have needs for groceries, etc. now- do not have time to wait 48 hours for transfer to checking account. Despite being a powerseller on ebay with years of selling, sometimes transfers from paypal to checking account take 72 hours, even longer over weekends. Just wish I could use paypal at more stores other than $General.  Your real story should be why someone with a M.S. in Quantitative Finance and a CPA candidate is selling used junk on the internet! The answer is quite simple, though: Dodd Frank.
