PayPal wants you to add a credit card as back up, that's all. It also lifts your withdraw/sending limits and mark your account as verified. They will do a test charge on your card that also provides a 4-digit code to complete the confirmation process and the test charge will be refunded once card is confirmed and will appear as a credit on your card account within 30 days.
You can choose your method of payment during checkout, just choose bank, that's all.
