Echecks

Why when sending funds to someone does it do an echeck instaed of an instant transfer ? Two weeks ago it was an echeck, last week it went instant, today back to echeck. It doesn't tell you until after you send the funds. This is very annoying as I'm trying to send a friend some money today, not next week.

Can I cancel it as it will serve no purpose 4 or 5 days from now.

Echeques are normally sent if you don't have an up to date credit card linked to your paypal account as well as your bank account.

Sometimes they let you do some small payments instantly but as there is no back up funding source they make you wait for the payment to clear for larger payments.

If that is not the case then sometimes they also do it on certain types of transactions / sellers.

You can't cancel a pending echeque but your seller can.

Not having a back-up funding source (credit card/debit card) is the correct answer (most of the time).

I have a bank account and credit cards linked to my account and have always been able to do 'immediate' funds transfers and payments. Never had a single issue with insufficient funds or any other problems at all.

Now all of a sudden (within the past few days) when I am trying to send money and make payments, using my bank account, it keeps doing it in the form of an eCheck. I have no other options available when paying via bank account. It will ONLY do eChecks.

Paypal rapidly went from being a very convenient and useful tool, to being almost as bad as paper checks and money orders.

Very annoying, very frustrating.

even if you have an updated card info if the card triggered the security system it may decline it as a backup card and still process as echeck. very rare but it can still happen.
