I received money from a person I do not know and they have now contacted me directly asking me to return this. I do not know how they got hold of my email address.
Have read that there is a scam using stolen credit cards to send false payments, demand a refund and then raise a dispute so repayment gets paid twice. Is this true?
What should I do? I am concerned that by hitting "refund money" I am alerting a scammer to an active email address and active paypal account.
Thanks.

they know your Paypal email address anyway, this is how they can send you payment.
just find the transaction and refund in full.
