Purchased a rather expensive coffee maker and it stopped working within 20 days (received 12/28 stoppd working 1/16). I know buyer protection is not a warrenty but really an expensive coffee maker should work longer than 20 days. Not sure what to do. Seller described this as "like new", and it did work but only 20 days. Any thoughts? Thanks

Assuming it was a used item of unknown date of manufacture. This would also mean no manufacturer warranty.
Sellers of used items cannot predict usable life of an electronic item, especially one which is beyond manufactuer warranty time. Buyer accepts all risks in this case. Like new condition would only apply to appearances as seller would have no way to evaluate the quality of the internal mechanisms other than working or not working.
What you do depends on your ethics in this situation.

Thank you for your reply. I sort of figured this would be the case. So be it. I learned my lesson not to buy otherwise expensive items unless brand new with a warrenty.

Individual Ebay sellers found like new items and list them on Ebay.
Where these items come from -could be a wedding gift gathering dust in someone's attic,it could be remnants or remainders bought from liqidators,or returns from dept store,or minor factory defects.
It could be manhandled, dropped from high prices, exposed to heat and cold,so it may look new or like new,you dont really know if it is like buying from a reputable store which offers warranty and come from the manufacturer.
MIB is a trade term meaning mint in box,as come from the manufacture, but in your case it is not coming direct from manufacturer.
you may contact the seller and works something out,can it be repaired?

Thanks for your reply but no it can not be repaired. The manufacturer stated it is an "unrepairable" product and would give me a refund if purchased NIB and I have the store receipt. I will ot pursue this with the seller because they did sell it to me and they had no way of knowing this item would break. I am disappointed and not happy I am out what I paid butt I guess that's the risk I take. I will never buy a used item of this type ever again for sure
